Gratin Dish(Potatoes &Cabbage)

1-Head of Cabbage
1lb of Bacon
2 tablespoons of butter- plus more for greasing gratin dish
2lbs Baking Potatoe, unpeeledand thinly sliced(about 1/8 inch)
2 1/2 cups heavy cream
2 cups of parmesan
salt & pepper
1/4 cup fresh chives to garnish-optional
Pre-heat oven to 375

  1. Fry bacon, drain on paper towels, set aside. Wash cabbage and pat dry. Shred cabbage(slice) add 1 tablespoon of butter to bacon grease, stir till melted. Add cabbage, slowly let cabbabe wilt.(usally 30min)Crumble bacon up and add in with cabbage, add salt&pepper.Remove from heat. Generously butter the bottom and sides of an oven proof casserole dish. In large bowl combine potatoes,1 1/2 cups of cream, 1cup of paresan, mix well.Using your hands,place a layer of patatoes in dish, add a layer of cabbage, sprinkle with parmesan and repeat layers.Pour remaining 1 cup of cream over dish, sprinkle with remaining parmesan. Cover dish with Aluminium foil, Bake 1 hour. Remove foil and bake 30 min or until golden brown. Let stand 10 min before serving. *This is a time consuming dish...but very tasteful
